What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files which are saved on the user’s computer when a website is visited.

A distinction is made between permanent and temporary cookies on the one hand, and direct and indirect cookies on the other. Cookies are permanent when they remain on the user’s computer, even after the browser has closed; temporary cookies disappear as soon as the user closes the browser. Direct cookies are sent by the website itself; indirect cookies originate from third parties.

Some of these cookies remember functional preferences, such as the user’s choice of language. Other cookies are intended to enable analysis of information, such as the number of visits to a website. Yet other cookies are used for marketing purposes.

Types of cookies

The main types of cookies that websites may use are described below:

Session cookies

These are temporary cookies that remain in the cookie file of your web browser only for the duration of your visit and they are deleted when you close the browser.

Persistent cookies

These remain in the cookie file of your web browser even after the browser is closed, sometimes for a year or longer (the exact length of time will depend on the lifetime of the specific cookie). Persistent cookies are used where the website operator may need to know who you are for more than one browsing session (e.g. to remember your username or website customisation preferences).

First-party cookies

These are cookies planted on your browser and/or hard drive by the actual website you are visiting. This involves assigning a unique identity to you with a view of tracking your journey on the website. Website operators often use first-party cookies for session management and recognition purposes.

Third-party cookies

These are cookies used by third parties, such as social networks, to track your visits onto various websites on which they advertise. The website operator will not have control over these third-party cookies.

What is the use of cookies?

Venyo wants to keep you informed about this new legislation and about the cookies it uses. Cookies help Venyo to optimise your visit to a website, to remember technical choices (e.g. a language setting, a newsletter, etc.) and to show you more relevant services and offers.

If you want to consult the website of Venyo, we recommend enabling cookies. If you do not like this however, you are free to disable cookies (see also under “Removing and disabling cookies”).

We use cookies to improve your visit to our website. The cookies we use are safe. The information we gather by means of cookies helps us to identify any errors, or to show you specific services which we think may interest you. It is possible we store information directly related to you. We may also use cookies from carefully selected partners with whom we collaborate and who advertise our services on their websites.

If you remove or reject these cookies, you may not be able to make full use of the possibilities provided by the Venyo website.

I am not from Belgium. Is there any other type of permission required for my country?

Venyo website is not only aimed at Belgian nationals. The European Member States often implement the cookie legislation differently, which makes it difficult for the User to determine how he or she needs to give permission. Venyo aims at the correct implementation per Member State, as far as possible technically and materially.
